Movable walls, derived spaces: why capacity should never be typed by hand

When a hall can become three rooms, capacity, egress, rigging and pricing all change. Those numbers belong to the geometry, not to a spreadsheet.
Most venue teams hold combinable-space knowledge informally: a senior planner knows that Hall 2B seats 420 banquet-style when the airwall is closed, and 260 when it is open with the service corridor in use. That knowledge is accurate, undocumented and impossible to audit.
A derived space is a first-class object generated from the parent hall and the wall configuration that produced it. Because it inherits surveyed geometry, every dependent number is calculated rather than remembered: seated and standing capacity, egress width per occupant, rigging points in range, available power phases, cleaning time and the rate-card line that should appear on the quote.
The operational payoff shows up at quotation time. A planner selects a configuration; the platform recalculates limits and flags the ones that fail before a client ever sees a proposal. Safety review stops being a late-stage veto and becomes a validation gate inside the workflow.
The modelling rule is simple: if a value can be derived from the drawing, never let a human type it. Reserve manual input for commercial judgement: discounts, priority and service level, where judgement is actually the point.
